8. Conservative play-calling - While watching the Florida/LSU game a short time ago, I saw something that made my blood boil. With 2nd and inches, Tebow rushes for next to nothing. 3rd and inches, Tebow rushes for next to nothing. 4th and inches, Florida lines up with Tebow under center, who runs a hard count in hopes of drawing an offsides penalty, which LSU had previously given up freely. No go this time, so they take a delay of game penalty and punt.

I absolutely hate junk like this. First of all, why'd they do the predictable thing in driving up the gut on 2nd down and again on 3rd? To quote Vizzini from Princess Bride, "INCONCEIVABLE!" I quote him only because quoting myself might be self-incriminating.

Furthermore, you have a man who tips the field in his favor with Tim Tebow, and the law of averages dictates that his bombing the 2nd and 3rd downs only means that he's probably going to run fifty yards on the 4th. Plus, you have one of the more overwhelming offensive attacks in college football...if I'm the coach, I GO FOR IT.

Come to think of it, I don't hate "Conservative play-calling"...I hate "pansy play-calling". It's like watching two great heavyweights hug each other the whole fight. I want to see two great heavyweights absolutely bludgeon the snot out of each other for fifteen rounds and end it in a knock-out!

I realize that the point is to win, and this requires that a team not gamble its chances away and play the odds rather than damning the torpedoes. I understand it, but I dislike it no less. It basically goes back to the same reasons for which I hate field goals.
