A Few Things I Hate About Football
I'm a fan of football. Having grown up watching and playing it, I see no time in the future where I won't be watching it. It's an "always have, always will" sort of thing. But there are some things I could totally do without: see how many you agree or disagree with! I’m sure there’s other stuff I haven’t listed here, but those are the major ones. -
Brian McLaren needs to butt out
Just got an email that's torqued my lugnuts a bit too much concerning Brian McLaren. In case you're unfamiliar, he's one of the most influential "evangelicals" in America...at least, according to Time magazine. I put "evangelical" in quotes, because, by my reading, the man doesn't seem to have the whole Christian thing figured out yet. -
I Hate Eminent Domain
I have hated the entire concept of eminent domain ever since the state came to my father and made him sell some of his frontage property in order to put an off-ramp from the newly four-laned federal highway 45 back when I was a child. -
Poor People Eating Fast Food to Survive is Bologna
Indeed, it's a huge load of baloney. If you watch the news to any degree, you've been hearing this hokum for some time. Yeah, it's actually several degrees worse than mere baloney, but I'll restrict it to that. -
Only an Idiot Can Vote for Barack Obama
Yup, that's a provacative title, but I can't think of any other explanation aside from abject ignorance. Basically, it boils down to three matters that, while interrelated, are still discernable and worth putting forward. This is my mile-long post for the year, so hold on to your hats. -
To Protest, or Not to Protest
One of the key freedoms guaranteed in the first amendment to the U.S. Constitution is the right to free speech. It is this right that allows us to speak our minds and have open debate on issue that divide, leading to cooperation among parties and determination of solutions to common problems. It is [...] -
O’Reilly, practice conservation: shut your mouth
Bush announced recently that he was rescinding the executive order prohibiting oil drilling on the continental shelf. An idiot reporter wanted to know why he didn’t tell people to quit driving so much and set their thermostat set points higher to reduce energy consumption, to which Bush says he’s not there to tell people [...] -
Supreme Court for the (rare) win
A big win for our Republic today, as the Supreme Court narrowly affirmed the right of Americans to keep and bear arms in their decision on District of Columbia V Heller today. This won’t result in a nationwide Castle Doctrine, though it would be nice, but at least the right is affirmed. What [...] -
Playing Hard Ball with DirecTV
I’ve been with DirecTV since they started the small satellite revolution around 1994…one of their first subscribers. However, I’ve been trying to figure out for nearly two years whether I want to stay with them or go with Dish Network. I prefer DTV over Dish…they have some channels the other doesn’t, I prefer the hardware, [...] -
A Conservative for Clinton? It’s Possible!
I’ve nearly had enough of this pathetic excuse for a presidential campaign. Last week, I was fully planning on not voting at all. I know some people belly-ache about that, citing some version of “too many good men died to secure my right to vote!” Yeah, whatever…they died to secure our right [...] -
The Miracle of Christmas
I had planned to put together a commentary on the meaning of the Christmas holiday, but I just read something that nearly threw me into a full-blown Donald Duck conniption: “Archbishop of Canterbury Dismisses Nativity Scene as Nothing but ‘Legend’“. So I felt not only the need for a commentary, but a Sunday school [...] -
“There’s gonna be a revolution in this country!”
Those were words I often heard from one of my favorite ex-co-workers from time to time, and it was always in relation to some stupid thing the government does. Whether it was taxes (usually around mid-April), divorce law, immigration, quotas, or any number of things, that was pretty much what he’d finish his rant of [...] -
May Day!
It’s May Day, A.K.A. Surrender National Sovereignty Day, or “Mayday! Mayday!” For the United States Today being May Day, whose significance is totally lost to me (being a WASP), thousands of scalawags and assorted immigrants (legal and otherwise) marched their sorry selves up and down American streets protesting the federal government’s enforcement of the border and [...] -
More thoughts on the Virginia Tech massacre
Since the last time I wrote on the subject a couple days ago, we’ve learned a good bit more about the Virginia Tech killer. Not only that, but there’ve been lots and lots of blame being passed around. I’ve got a few additional things to say concerning this, as it affects a number [...] -
Stupid news coverage
I’m sick to death of cable news channels trying to pass off tabloid material as news. I don’t care about Britney Spears’ domestic squabbles. I don’t want to hear about OJ Simpson’s ridiculous new book on how he killed (oops, would have if he’d ever wanted to) Nicole and Ron. I don’t [...] -
I hate it when people’s middle initial is part of their name
Of course, there’s a thing in the news lately about Michael J. Fox jittering away in a political ad, and it reminds me of a long-standing pet peeve of mine. Why is it that folks want their middle initial in their full name? I don’t go on the air and say, “…this is [...] -
Police Benevolence Fund, Pizza Sauce, Traffic Changes, Walmart Staffing
The inaugeral post in the category of Irrational Fury. Thanks to old associate Mike Miksch (responsible for the world-famous Superdickery site) who coined the phrase some months back. Has anyone ever heard of the Police Benevolence Fund? I hadn’t, either, until they started burning up my phone lines over the past few months. [...]
