Japanese Transformers: Victory
There's a lot of stuff left out, particularly during the series synopsis. However, this is due to the lack of an episode guide or existing description of TF: Victory on the web. If you have information that isn't represented here, please send it in! Go to the Contact page and get on it!
General information:
Following Super God Masterforce on Japanese airwaves came Transformers: Victory, chronicling Star Saber's Cybertrons struggle with Deszaras' (a.k.a. Deathsaurus)Destron forces in the year 2025 A.D. The Destrons arrived on Earth with plans to rob it of all its resources, energize their starship, and rule the universe using it. The Cybertrons are there to stand against them in their long-time role as protectors of the human race.
Whereas on Masterforce there was the ongoing search for the missing transtectors and uncertainty that pervaded the plot, Victory has a pretty straightforward story, much like the original Megatron vs. Convoy campaign. This series introduces the Brainmasters, who were Cybertrons and were similar to Headmasters except that the small robots entered the larger body and went up to form the robot's face rather than the entire head. Also introduced were the Breastforce, a Destron faction that had breastplates that transformed into small beast-like partner or a weapon for the robot to use in battle. Also introduced were the Micromasters, Transformers which were much smaller than conventional Transformers (pre-Beast Wars characters? That's still mere conjecture). In this series, all the Micromasters came from the planet Micro.
This series is renowned as the best of the Japanese Transformers series, particularly due to it's high standard of animation, the brand new cast of characters, and it's fine story. The only toys released from this series in the United States was the Destron DinoForce, but they were released as the Pretender Monsters and had different Pretender shells. Also, some of the characters in Masterforce play a part in this series, most notably God Ginrai.
Series synopsis:
In the beginning, the Destrons were primarily concentrating on freeing their Space Fortress from the void in which it was sealed by Star Saber and the Cybertrons and obtaining fuel for its operation. Deszaras also made plans to bring about the destruction of the Cybertrons. Many times over the course of the series, Deszaras put various plans in action to destroy Star Saber. Although he never succeeded, he came close on many occasions. However, Star Saber, to whom God Ginrai promoted to be the new Cybertron leader, was the finest swordsman in the galaxy and was a worthy foe. Saber, along with the Cybertron Brainmasters, Multiforce, their Micromaster allies; fought against Deszaras and his Destron BreastForce and DinoForce.
Deszaras plotted the downfall of Star Saber, and nearly accomplished his goal on a number of occasions; most notably when he first and unleashed his extremely powerful rifle on Star Saber. Saber was damaged, but Deszaras was too drained by the blast to follow up. In the middle of the series, the five BreastForcers five sought out their sixth member, Gaihawk, who was jailed on Micro. A little later, Leozack attempted to recruit the Destron BreastForcer, Deathcobra, to replace Hellbat, who was causing trouble in the ranks Hellbat killed Deathcobra and blamed the Cybertrons present when the rest of the BreastForce arrived. Star Saber arrived to help the three Cybertrons accused of the murderous deed, but then the BreastForce transformed into the gesault Liokaiser, which was totally unexpected and was their first merge in the series. Liokaiser lit into Star Saber and inflicted massive injury on him, but, when God Ginrai came in and interrupted the battle, Star Saber was saved. However, later, in a trap laid for Star Saber by Liokaiser and Deszaras, Star Saber would have surely met his manufacturer had it not been for God Ginrai taking Deszaras's huge gun's blast himself and dying in his place. However, his consciousness was transferred into a new body by Perceptor, Wheeljack, and Minerva; thus, Victory Leo was born.
There were several other plans enacted by Deszaras afterward, but they were all foiled by the actions of Star Saber and Victory Leo, who could now merge together to form Victory Saber, the most powerful character in the series. But, near the end, Deszaras finally accumulated enough energy to free his fortress from its prison by draining it from the underwater continent of Atlantis. After temporarily disabling Victory Leo, Deszaras transformed the space fortress into a huge cannon and aimed it at the Earth! Star Saber and Victory Leo entered it to start the final conflict. Victory Leo defeated Liokaiser while Star Saber (with Victory Leo's big gun) went to battle with Deszaras. Star Saber took him down with a fatal sword injury in the chest, but, before he could escape, Deszaras had the fortress seal itself to prevent Saber from finding Jan and escaping the explosion. Victory Leo finds Jan and leads him to safety; then he re-enters the fortress, finds Star Saber, combines with him to form Victory Saber, and blasts their way out. Victory Saber then destroys the fortress, and the series ends.
Character notes:A number of notable characters appeared in the series.
- Star Saber
led the Cybertrons in this series. In addition to being one of the greatest swordsman in the galaxy, he is also a Brainmaster. His vehicle form is that of a super jet; the jet merged with the Brainmaster component, Saber. The super jet's booster rocket, the V-Star, becomes (guess what?!) a battle station, and combines with Saber's robot to form Star Saber. His main attack is his Saber Blade, which can fling energy blasts and is formed from the jet's nosecone and parts of the booster.
- Deszaras
is the leader of the Destron army. Some fans may know him as Deathsaurus; Deszaras is the spelling on the toy, where Deathsaurus is a Romanized equivalent, but both are correct. This juggernaut is a member of the Breastforce and can transform into a massive, mechanical winged dragon, while his Breastforce components Tigerbreast and Hawkbreast transform into a bow and shield, respectively. Deszaras' arsenal, aside from his Breastforce and animalistic offense in alt mode, consists of his super rifle, through which he can channel his life energy for a high powered shot, but, like Megatron's antimatter powered Fusion Cannon blast, it weakens him severely to do so.
- Victory Leo
is in actuality Super God Ginrai from TF: Masterforce. When Ginrai becomes mortally wounded in the middle of the series, his body is rebuilt; but he is plagued with psychological ailments which cause random bouts of violence. Victory Leo's alt modes are a winged lion and jet. He is equipped with a large rifle and two cannons (all described as being V-Locks). Leo also served as powerup armor for Star Saber, much like Godbomber for Super Ginrai was, and, when combined, would form Victory Saber.
- Lio Kaiser
is also known as Liocaesar and Leocaesar. He is a gesault composed of the lesser members of the BreastForce group, who are Leozack (F-14 jet), Guyhawk (MiG-29 jet), Hellbat (Refale jet), Jargua (dune buggy), Drillhorn (drill excavator), and Killbison (double barreled tank), who are like the Constructicons in that they can only merge in one way and can not swap positions. A very powerful and dangerous character, Liokaiser could use all the BreastForce's weapons in battle.
- Road Caesar
is the Cybertron gesault of the Brainmaster team, composed of Blacker (dune buggy), Braver (Ferrari car), and Laster (Lamborghini Countach car). His main weapon is a sword, the Road Blade (love those Japanese names ;) ) formed from those of his three Brainmaster components.
- Dinoking
is another gesault, who is composed of the members of the Dinoforce, who have dinosaur Pretender shells whick were different from those in Masterforce, since they didn't disappear when the robot revealed itself. The shells remained as remote controlled drones and could fight alongside the robots. The members of the Dinoforce were Doryu (Stegasaurus), Gairyu (Ankylosaurus), Goryu (T-rex), Kakuryu (Triceratops), Rairyuv (Apatosaurus), and Yoryu (Pteranodon). Dinoking retained the use of their individual weapons when they combined. These characters were released in America as the Monster Pretenders, but their dinosaur shells were switched with neon-colored monster shells.
- Multiforce
is a Cybertron group of six vehicles that had the unique ability to combine in groups of two. The vehicles were Wing (jet), Waver (hydrofoil), Dash (race car), Tacker (halftrack), Mach (space shuttle), and Tackle (truck, a.k.a. Attack). Since they could merge with any other one of the group, each combination would form a different robot with a different personality. They could all merge to form the gesault Landcross.
- Jan
was a human boy who was adopted by the Cybertron Star Saber when the child was abandoned as a baby.
